King Charles III Addresses U.S. Congress as Historic State Visit Highlights "Special Relationship"

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a historic moment for trans-Atlantic diplomacy, King Charles III addressed a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress today, marking only the second time a British monarch has done so in history. The visit, which coincides with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, has brought Washington to a standstill.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed the King and Queen Camilla with a grand ceremonial welcome on the South Lawn, complete with a 21-gun salute. Following a private bilateral meeting in the Oval Office, President Trump described the meeting as "fantastic," emphasizing the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the visit occurs against a backdrop of global tension. Reports suggest that King Charles is utilizing the trip to mend diplomatic rifts potentially caused by the ongoing 2026 Iran conflict. The Royal couple is set to travel to New York next to honor the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks before concluding their four-day tour.
